A disillusioned Cyclops leaves the X-Men and returns to the orphanage where he grew up, only to find it under the control of a mind-controlling mutant. This episode revolves around Cyclops leaving the X-Men after the death of Jean Grey. He returns to the orphanage of his youth just in time to stop the exploitation of mutant orphans by a politically ambitious adoptive parent. Though I tend to dislike Cyclops-centered story lines, this one isn't bad. I am reminded for the second time in this series that Cyclops can put out fire with his laser sight. For the second time in this series, Cyclops seems like he is fully ready to move on after Jean dies, pretty quickly too. And why doesn't he admit to having been married? I understand he is coping and conflicted, but the writing approach to that is really confused.

Now to my chief complaint: what happened to Jean Grey? They start off the episode mourning her death, and I suspected the episode would address how she died. But it didn't. So disappointing. It wasn't addressed in the previous episode, it wasn't addressed in this episode, and at the end of the episode when Cyclops returns to the X-Men, Professor X announces that Cerebro has detected she is still alive. So, maybe it'll be addressed in the next episode? It's not. A decent episode ruined by the WTF framing of Jean's death and resurrection.
